Raspberries
We grow 1800 feet of raspberry rows, covering about 1/3 of an acre. Our first planting was in 1986, with a test planting of 9 cultivars. Over the years, we have discarded some poor cultivars and planted new ones. We still are growing 9 red cultivars:We are also growing 2 black raspberry cultivars: Jewel and Black Mac. Nobody likes all the spines on the plants, but I really love the flavour and colour!

*These cultivars are fall-bearing raspberries. However, we harvest a summer crop from them to extend our summer season, both earlier and later. This practice also forces the fall crop to begin about 3 weeks earlier, so we can harvest before the major risk of fall frosts. This technique stretches our season from July through to first frost - almost 4 months of delicious raspberries!
We use trellises to keep the production area higher (our pickers like this!), and use trickle irrigation to maintain production over several weeks.
